Winterfest 2026: Snow, Music and Mountain Magic at Afriski
There are winter festivals, and then there is Winterfest at 3,222 metres above sea level.
On 22 August 2026, Afriski Mountain Resort came alive for Winterfest 2026 — bringing together snow, live music, mountain adventures and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay just a little longer.
Set high in the Maluti Mountains of Lesotho, Afriski is already a pretty spectacular place to spend a winter weekend. Add a festival to the mix and you get something rather special.
A winter festival with a difference
Winterfest isn’t your typical music festival.
There were no dusty festival fields or blazing summer temperatures. Instead, the backdrop was the snow-covered Maluti Mountains, with visitors moving between the slopes, the festival atmosphere and the resort’s restaurants and entertainment spaces.
The result was a day that felt uniquely Afriski: part mountain adventure, part music festival and entirely focused on having a good time.
And yes, there was plenty of snow.
Afriski’s 2026 winter season had already brought skiers and snowboarders to the resort from across Southern Africa, with the resort operating at an altitude of 3,222 metres.
From the slopes to the stage
For many visitors, the day started on the mountain. Skiers and snowboarders could make the most of the winter conditions before heading over to join the festival atmosphere. Those who weren’t skiing had plenty of opportunities to enjoy the snow and take in the mountain scenery.
Then there was the music.
The Kiffness brought the festival stage to life at Winterfest, delivering a high-energy live performance surrounded by the snow-covered peaks. Their set added a distinctly South African character to the weekend and gave festivalgoers another reason to stick around after a day on the slopes.
But the music was only part of what made Winterfest special. Across the resort, the weekend brought together snow activities, live entertainment, food, drinks and a crowd ready to make the most of the mountain. From the slopes during the day to the energy around the festival after dark, there was always something happening. And that’s really what makes an event like Winterfest at Afriski different.
You don’t have to choose between adventure and entertainment.
You can do both.
Snow, sunshine and good times
One of the best things about Winterfest is the setting.
At Afriski, the mountains are never just a backdrop. They’re part of the experience.
Throughout the day, visitors could take in the views, play in the snow, explore the resort and enjoy the festival atmosphere. Between performances and activities, there was plenty of time to simply hang out with friends, grab something to eat or drink and enjoy being somewhere completely different.
Afriski itself summed up the weekend afterwards with three things that captured the experience perfectly: snow, music and mountain views.
And that combination is difficult to replicate anywhere else in Southern Africa.
More than just one day
Although Winterfest was the main event, the weekend was about the full Afriski experience.
Visitors could ski and snowboard, explore the mountain, enjoy the resort’s food and entertainment, and make the most of everything that comes with spending a winter weekend at altitude.
For some, it was about chasing another run down the slopes. For others, it was about experiencing snow for the first time.
And for plenty of people, it was simply about getting together with friends, listening to good music and enjoying a cold-weather weekend in the mountains.
That’s what makes Winterfest work.
It doesn’t ask everyone to experience Afriski in the same way.
Until next time
As the 2026 Winterfest weekend came to an end, one thing was clear: the mountain had delivered.
There was snow on the slopes, music in the air, incredible mountain scenery all around and plenty of memories made along the way.
To everyone who joined us, danced with us, skied with us, explored with us and made Winterfest 2026 what it was — thank you.
We’ll see you on the mountain again.
Until then, keep the memories of Winterfest 2026 close.
Adventure never stops at Afriski.
