Snowmaker

Afriski Mountain Resort invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the positions of Snowmaker at its Site at Mahlasela Pass.

Job Responsibilities

Before Winter:

  • Unpacking of Snowmaking Equipment.
  • Positioning and Placement of Snowmaking Equipment
  • Repairs on related equipment and servicing.
  • Assist HOD Slopes, Snowmaking and Lifts with updating phase plans for Concentrated. Snowmaking Layout
  • Pressure testing of all Equipment.
  • Repairs of Hydrants.
  • Installations of HP Gauges as required by HOD SLOPES.
  • Assist HOD Slopes, Snowmaking and Lifts in International Orders and parts requirements.
  • Upkeep and repair of Snowmaking Computers and Automated System.

Winter- Snowmaking (Primarily with Automated system):

  • Key role player on Swing Shift/ Graveyard Shift to Relieve pressure from Slopes, Snowmaking and Lifts HOD.
  • Preparations of snowmaking equipment prior to shift.
  • Correct placement of equipment according to Snowmakers meeting.
  • Ensuring snowmaking personal are following routines and Logs.
  • Ensuring Snowmaking Staff are updating checklist during shift.
  • Once Snowmaking complete then team Member on Park team, Grooming team and or Ski School, Ski Patrol.
  • Assistant groomer when the majority of Snowmaking tasks complete. 
  • Ski Instructor when Snowmaking Mostly complete.

Requirements:

  • Excellent verbal and written Communication skills in English and at least 1 African language.  Good hearing.  Must be prepared to undergo a hearing test on request.  Good listening skills to understand and carry out instructions correctly and accurately.
  • Ability to carry out Physical work per standards and routines and work in all-weather types and Cold weather.
  • Vibrant and friendly personality.
  • Ability to multi-task and to meet deadlines.  Willing and able to work overtime when required.
  • Smart, clean and neat personal presentation.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Honest, reliable, conscientious, responsible and disciplined and to keep team moral high at all times.
